Investors In People Case Study Video Transcripts: Bright Grey

ROGER EDWARDS, PROPOSITION DIRECTOR, BRIGHT GREY:

Bright Grey started off being very consumer focused. It's a relatively new company and when we started we really wanted to understand our customers and the whole business has been built around that.

HOW DOES IIP HELP YOU WORK WITH YOUR PEOPLE?

What IIP did was give us more of an insight into what was happening internally, especially the sort of development of the staff from top down, really. Management development, customer service development. So they've given us a real focus in terms of how we train people, how we give them the ability to do their jobs and to excel at their jobs.

WHAT IS YOUR CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITY LIKE?

They sort of guide you through a journey where you already know what you're good at and they help you to identify the areas where you want to improve in order for you to achieve what you want to achieve and for us we wanted to achieve great customer service. We also wanted to achieve building a company that was a great place to work and one of the things that we're very keen on within Bright Grey is learning from elsewhere. What Investors In People are good at doing is saying, "well actually, have you seen this company over here that absolutely have nothing to do with your industry but actually you could learn from this process that they use and their customer service and help you to shape what you're doing internally."

HOW DOES IIP HELP YOU IMPROVE YOUR BUSINESS?

I think that if you have a goal as to where you want to be, and you've got inspiring customers and inspiring individuals working for you, IIP brings the focus you need to get to where you want to be and they effectively give you the pinpoint that you can aim for and we've found that whilst we were already doing a lot of good things, they've helped us achieve a lot of great things.
